Cold Brew African Rooibos Tea

Ingredients:

  • 4 pouches of African Rooibos
  • 1 liter of cold, filtered water
  • Optional: honey to tastea
  • Optional: slices of lemon or orange for garnish
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Place the tea in a large jug.
  2. Pour 1 liter of cold, filtered water over the tea.
  3. Cover the jug and place in the fridge. Let the tea steep for 8-12 hours. Rooibos is less bitter, so a longer steeping time gives the tea a deeper flavour without getting bitter
  4. Remove the tea after steeping.
  5. If you want to sweeten the tea, this is the moment to add honey to taste. Stir well until it is dissolved. It’s easier if the tea is at room temperature, so you may need to bring some tea to room temperature to sweeten, before adding it back into the cold jug.
  6. Add ice cubes to glasses and pour in the cold brew.
  7. Garnish with slices of lemon or orange and fresh mint leaves for a refreshing touch.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

Extra tips:

  • Add a splash of vanilla extract and some fresh ginger for extra flavour.
  • Add fresh fruit like strawberry, blueberries or mango.
  • Rooibos is mild enough to steep twice. Just add more cold water, but be aware that the flavours will be milder.
